Philoxenia

Philoxenia "Greek word for Hospitality"

They say the stones of a house hold the echoes of the past, but we built the second floor  of Daedalus Stone Villa to catch the laughter and memories of the future .

While the first floor is the heart of our daily life, the  whole second floor was built specifically for Philoxenia for family and friends who journey across the world to visit us.

The experience begins as you pass by our lemon tree 🍋 it's fragrance filling the air, and you climb the stone stairs to your own private entrance.

A Fragrant Welcome

You can enter from a charming side door, or continue straight onto beautifully laid  outdoor tiles that mirror the blues of the Ikarian Sea and Sky. Proceed around the corner too a massive  partially covered Veranda  with  one-of-a-kind glass & wooden double doors crafted and designed by  Petros & Vasiles, specifically to capture the spectacular views from the inside.

"Peraste"- Welcome

I truly believe the vista's from here are the best in the entire villa . The sprawling Veranda furnished with warm teak outdoor furniture just waiting for you to enjoy an evening of al-fresco dining under the stars,
with spectacular views of Turkey & the Island of Chios.
 Turquoise Ikarian sea in-between.

Whatever door you choose, leads you inside, to a space that's bright, airy and filled with pieces that tell our story. If you pass through the side door, you enter into a Hellenic(Greek) styled  kitchen, with a Italian "Franke"cook stove (similar to ours, but bronze in color)  farmers sink, and Polished Wood Countertops .
If the terrace is known for its grand views, the kitchen window is framed  by the charming village of Maratho above. On Sundays you can hear the slow rhythmic bells calling the locals from the fields to church. Below the church are the tall Kyparissia (cypress) tree's scattered across the mountain-side.

A quaint & Rustic European Kitchen

In the living room area, memories hang directly on the wall. The  Centerpiece is a large Canvas photo of me, my sister and my best friend's, with our backs turned, looking out at the majestic Acropolis. It's a beautiful memory that inspired us to build a retreat for family & friends.

The living room is an open floor plan, One of my favorite pieces in the room has a story of its own. While on a shopping excursion in Turkey with my girlfriend Marianna, we found a master craftsman willing to create a rustic wrought iron chandelier, specifically for this space. It hangs beautifully high above the room.

On the wrap around couch you will find, hand sewn colorful pillows from Izmir Turkey. The kourelou rug  was hand woven, made in our village of Frantato, by Athena's! You will notice on the coffee table(crafted by Vagelis ) holds a leather  bound Guest Book for our friends family to document their adventures.

Tucked high under the beams of the wood ceiling is a cozy loft. You reach the space  by  climbing winding stairs. We added a port hole window (not an easy feat to do in a stone house) to allow the fresh mountain air to flow through the room, guaranteeing a good nights sleep. The secluded nook is complete with two single beds, 100 % cotton coverlets bought in Turkey on our shopping extravaganza in Izmir. A place specifically known for their textiles.  Stuffed mattresses, hard wood floors, and to complete the space, wooden railings draped with fairy lights.

Back on the main level, is a cozy Master bedroom its a true sanctuary with views of the mountains in front of you and the sea below.
The Private Balcony, furnished with beautiful antique wrought iron chairs and comfy cushions hand-sewn by Konstantina, a talented local seamstress.
Step through your French doors  onto the balcony to relax in evening with a glass of one of our local wines.

A stone villas is never truly finished when the last tile is laid . It is completed slowly over the years, as we fill the walls with memorabilia and the rooms with people we love. Each photo we hang and every new memory we make is like adding a final, invisible layer of mortar that holds the whole place together.

With Love From Greece
