Village on way to Delphi

Driving through a mountainous region on the way to Delphi ,we drove through a village called Araxova, It's winding streets, filled with charming shops and quaint restaurants had amazing Vistas around every corner.

Meteora

Monastery built into Mountainside

A mountain region in the North of Greece you will find Meteora. A five hour train ride, reasonably priced, fairly comfortable ride, but be advised to bring food to snack on.

We were lucky enough to sit next to Yia Yia, who shared her delicious basket of food.

On arrival we are amazed by spectacular views of Meteora. Meteora "The rocks of God "are monasteries built by monks by hands with only rustic tools, grit.

During Turkish invasion, Turks tried to destroy Greek religion, writings. Monks fled to the top of the mountains built these incredible monasteries.

They designed baskets on a pulley, rope system to lower themselves down. When turks came they hoisted basket up secured them, so they couldnt be reached. Because of their ingenuity, Ancient Greek religion, ✍writings ,teachings were preserved.

I asked our group to pick a word to describe Meteora and the consensus, there are no words. This is the first time our group was left speechless!

Monesteri Inn was quaint and charming,
rustic and welcoming, our bedroom had a working fireplace a balcony that opened
To expansive views of Meteora Our Inn keeper Dita, served up a breakfast of fresh eggs, homemade marmalade, muffins and plenty of hot steamy coffee.
If you are looking 5 stars luxury this is not the place. If you are looking for authentic, quaint, charming, this is it.
