To arrive at this spectacular beach, you must 1st hike down into it wear good shoes it takes about 15 minutes and parts of it can be difficult. It is a white smooth stone beach and is the most beautiful beach I have ever been to,crystal clear waters with beautiful hues of blue. Swim around the corner and you will find a cave you can swim into, another breathtaking moment.
Port of Manganites
Maganitis port |
Close by Seychelles is the village of Maganitis to the right is a beautiful rock formation hidden behind it crystal clear swimming hole, where you can snorkel and see all the beautiful smooth rock formations under water. After snorkeling & exploring there is a wonderful taverna up the hill to relax and have delicious bites of food and drink. One of my favorite days!
Nas beach
Nas beach
Located at the base of the mountain, it's about a 15 minute walk down stone steps.
The beach has a lagoon which is fed from the rivers from the mountain above. During the summer months especially August the Meltemi winds ( monsoon winds) cause the seas to be very rough with rip currents, drownings occur every year, swim with caution.
It is a wild and beautiful beach.
Skali swimming hole
On days that the Meltemi come we go to a swimming hole that is close by to where we live. There are no sandy beaches here, good for safe swimming, snorkeling to see small blue and yellow fishes.
My hubby lovin every minute of it.
Mesachti
Mesakti |
Located in the village of Gialiskari you can find us most days at this beach during shoulder season.
It gets very crowded during peak months. Mesakti, organized beach, with volleyball courts, sun chairs for rent, food, beverages, beach bar. On the days of Meltemi the seas become quite rough, surfers are in their glory.
There is good snorkeling along the rugged coastline, and some small fish to see. Surf lessons for all ages is offered.
Kremasti Beach in Kambos
Far below where we live you can see Kremasti beach to find it you have to drive dirt roads through tall bamboo trees, it is a rocky beautiful beach, the river flows down through the mountains to meet the sea and here you can find turtles there.
Swimming in the turquoise waters of Trapolo.
I have really only reviewed some of the beaches we tried on the north side of the Island except for Seychelles which is on the south side.
Everyday you will find the Ikarian people at the sea enjoying all that it has to offer, you will see 4 or 5 of them bobbing up in down in the water with there hats on socializing for hours at a time, they then will pick up there stuff my husband will hear them say "time to go home to eat a little and siesta" they close up their umbrellas, fold the towels gather their things and head home.We have not explored that side as of yet. I can tell you these are some of the most beautiful waters and swimming holes I have ever seen, we have spent a part of almost every day swimming as these beautiful azure waters call to us.
There life and pace here is very unhurried but somehow it all gets done. I don't want to leave you with the impression that they just laze around all day, they are very hard workers and daytime is very hot, there work is done early or late at night, with time in between to enjoy life.
They have a saying here on Ikaria leave your watches and worries behind!
They seem to live by this another reason maybe they live long and well.
Very nice
